Carmelite Father Peter Akkanath Chakkunny was born and raised in Kidangoor, Kerala, South India. Today, as he celebrates the 25th anniversary of his ordination, his community wrote in its newsletter, “He is in the USA doing a wonderful healing ministry in the hospital, especially to the terminally ill patients for the last eight years with miraculous results, especially during the COVID-19 time.”
Two years ago, Anna Dawidowicz was a law clerk in Warsaw, Poland. On January 17 of this year, she started a new career in the United States in the Diocese of Metuchen as the Administrative Assistant for the Secretariat for Family and Pastoral Life.

HILLSBOROUGH — As they began their faith journey towards Easter, Cursillistas from the diocese took time for an encounter with Christ during a Lenten retreat. “Let Your Face Shine on Your Servant (Psalm 31:16) was the theme of the retreat sponsored by the Metuchen Cursillo Movement held March 4 at Mary, Mother of God Parish.
In reflecting on her decades as a religious, Mercy Sister Mary McAuley Ronan said, “God’s blessings, kindness and goodness over the years comes to mind.” She added that when she looks back, she “can’t believe where the years have gone.”
Reflecting on her 70 years in religious life, Mercy Sister Michael Mary Roberts expressed gratitude. “I am so grateful to God for the gift He gave to me, this vocation. I feel very Blessed.”
After almost two decades of sharing the stories of the people, places, programs and events of the Diocese of Metuchen, Christopher Donahue has decided to end the story of his work on “The Catholic Spirit,” the diocese’s official newspaper. Before joining “The Catholic Spirit” in 2003 as a staff writer, Donahue thought writing for a diocesan newspaper would not be as challenging or rewarding as the work he had been doing.
In July, when the Lawrenceville School’s Summer Scholars program ended, a new beginning opened up for one of its teachers, Adam Carlisle. With extensive experience in the education field, including nearly 15 years as an Advanced Placement instructor, Carlisle decided to leave teaching and serve the Church.
RARITAN TOWNSHIP — More than an hour before the Annual Solemn Pontifical Benediction and Blessing of Roses began at the Carmel Monastery Oct. 1, people arrived. They filled the pews of the small chapel, lined the walls and stood in the hallway just outside. They had come out of love for St. Thérèse of Lisieux, a French Discalced Carmelite Nun also known as “The Little Flower of Jesus,” to celebrate her feast day, to thank her for favors received and seek her help.
