A funeral Mass was celebrated for Elaine McAndrew July 26 at Our Lady of Peace Church, Fords.
McAndrew, who taught social studies at Our Lady of Peace School for 43 years, died July 22 at the Haven Hospice Unit at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was 66.
During her career as a dedicated teacher, McAndrew touched the lives of countless students as well as faculty and administration. She was a committed member of Our Lady of Peace Parish and school communities, but she was also greatly loved as a sister, an aunt and a friend.
Comments left on the website of Flynn and Son Funeral Home, Fords, which handled the arrangements, included one from Debbie Tamburino, who said: “As a graduate from OLP, I will never forget the impact you made in my life. You were a wonderful person and an excellent teacher! Thank you ever so much for your dedication to your students, and every day I hope that my children have a teacher just like YOU that makes a difference! Rest in peace and you will be missed.”
Dan G. of Austin, Texas, who graduated from Our Lady of Peace in 1973, said:   “My deepest sympathy to Elaine’s family and friends and may you take some comfort knowing that over forty years she has touched the lives of so many students over so many years that across generations and across the country they meet and remember her fondly.”
Born in Newark, McAndrew lived in Menlo Park Terrace section of Woodbridge for most of her life.
She was predeceased by her mother, Rita (Troy) McAndrew, in 1961, and her father, Paul McAndrew, in 2004. She is survived by her sister, Rita Wenzel, and her husband, Michael, of Colonia; two nephews, Gary Koellhoffer, and his wife, Samantha, of Lansdale, Pa.; and Paul Koellhoffer and his wife, Caraline, of Westfield; as well as good friends Dianne Ferrara and Lorri Clark.
She is also loved by great nephews and nieces Sean, Ryan, Madelyn, Allison and Miranda as well as Grace, Abigail, Sarah, and Peter M.
