Our Vision:
Our mission is to evangelize
all people, at all times, and in all places. We are to proclaim the message
of Jesus; to teach his truth; to extend his love to people of all ages," with
this proclamation the Diocese of Metuchen defined its vocation in a mission
statement promulgated shortly after being established on November 19, 1981.
In its service to this stated mission that The Catholic Spirit began publication
with its inaugural issue on Feb. 29, 1996. We intend to spread the good news
through the printed word. As an evangelizing tool, we endeavor to assist the
Bishop of Metuchen in his role as teacher and leader of the Roman Catholic Christian
Community. We hope to be a source of enlightenment, information and witness.
Through the communication of the Gospel message of hope and reconciliation for
all people we aspire to upbuild the body of Christ specifically within the counties
of Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren, which comprise the Diocese of
Metuchen.
Our concern is universal. We intend to dialogue with the diverse elements of
our society and to explore the links between the message of salvation and the
contemporary culture. We hope to highlight those areas of cooperation while standing
also as a voice of critical reflection on the signs of the times as they relate
to the Gospel of Christ. In this we intend to bring the Roman Catholic Christian
perspective to bear upon and contribute to the debates on significant issues
within our society. The Church for all times stands as the sign and safeguard
of the transcendent dignity of each and every human life. It is that truth we
seek to communicate and to witness.
