About Us

The Catholic Spirit is the official newspaper of the Diocese of Metuchen, covering the Catholic communities in Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties.

As an evangelizing tool, The Catholic Spirit endeavors to assist the Bishop of Metuchen in his role as teacher and leader of the Roman Catholic Christian community. We strive to be a source of enlightenment, information and witness.

The Catholic Spirit provides a Catholic perspective on current issues of interest to Catholics and those individuals seeking to learn the Catholic view. It gives Catholics a sense of belonging to the Catholic Church, as well as to the Diocese of Metuchen. It is a way for Catholics to build community as they connect to others in the 100 parishes in the diocese.

The Catholic Spirit is an excellent way for readers and visitors to our website to learn how the Catholic faith is being lived out in local parishes, across the country and around the world. It is an educational resource on Catholic teachings and the inspirational articles it contains help the faithful to strengthen and deepen their spiritual lives.

The Catholic Spirit is published every two weeks and nearly 20,000 copies are distributed to all parishes, as well as nursing homes, hospitals, and prisons. Subscriptions are available for those individuals who wish to receive the newspaper at home or want to have the paper mailed as a gift to someone.

The newspaper’s website, www.catholicspirit.com, was redesigned in August 2013 and contains an electronic copy of the printed edition as well as many features only available online. Breaking news, movie reviews, a photo gallery, and expanded classified section can all be found on the website.
